“Salma and her brothers were to be sold to the “highest bidder” as soon as their Mother died (probably of AIDs) on the streets of Pune, India. With nothing more than a dying mother’s fingerprint and a lot of prayer, we brought Salma to a Christian children’s home. The next day, we returned to rescue Salma’s brothers, but it was too late. Salma’s Mother was lying dead on a cold and crowded street— and her two little brothers were gone. They were sold by their own Father—into prostitution or as slaves. I was devastated!
I was so happy for Salma—she was safe! She was in a home where she would be fed and taken care of—given a good education and loved.
I couldn’t stop thinking about her brothers or the 800,000 other children who are sold into prostitution each year by sex traffickers, or the millions who will be sold like cattle as bonded slaves, or mutilated so that they have to beg all of their lives. There is an all-out attack on children and we can’t look the other way…we have to do something!”

The film Slumdog Millionaire brought India’s approximately 19 million orphans* (like Salma) into the attention of the world. But, many of the street children used in that movie are still on the streets or even worse—they could have been trafficked by now. AIDs, poverty, and ignorance have created more orphans living in the world today than throughout history.
We need more than awareness.
We need activists—people who will “plead for the orphan and the widow”.
So, what can we do?
1. We can adopt. It is estimated that there are about 147 million orphans* in the world today. There are also approximately 150 million Christian homes. If we all just adopted one child…
2. We can host an Indian child to come be part of our family.
We are working on a program through the Indian and U. S. Governments to help school-age children who are at-risk or orphaned. Loving Christian families could apply to host a child in their homes for the duration of their studies (from 6-21 years old). It is truly the “spirit of adoption”.
3. We can give.
It only takes about $750/ month to support an entire orphanage or children’s home. It is only about $30/ month to sponsor a child’s living expenses in one of the homes. But, any gift is a great blessing to a people who have so little.
4. We can go.
Prayerfully consider coming with us as we lead many teams to India each year. We go to many of the Indian tourist sights as well as helping and blessing the orphanages and children’s homes there. It is a trip of a lifetime.

Why do we do this?
We, at C.R.I. for India have hope!Because, we know so many children, like Salma who, due to the love of many volunteers and Christian missionaries, are rescued and brought into children’s homes, orphanages, and best of all—– families.
Mother Teresa said,
“We ourselves feel that we are but a small drop in the ocean, but the ocean would be less without that missing drop”.
We all can make a difference —one child at a time!
